Week 1: Ultimate Hope

Perhaps the best news of the week is that advent isn’t just celebrating the fact that Jesus was born, but also the fact that He is coming again. He’s coming again to rule and bring peace to the whole world. We hope for that day; we hope in Jesus to return again and rule and judge the earth.

Jesus’ life here was like a movie trailer for the life that is to come in the new heavens and the new earth (I stole the metaphor from my husband). Whenever he healed someone, whenever he had compassion on the marginalized, whenever he provided for the poor and abandoned, he was showing us what heaven would be like. All those who trust in Him will be healed, will be perfectly accepted in him and will be provided for. All who trust in Him will have perfect communion with Jesus, like Jesus did with the Father while he was on earth.

In that time everything that we hoped for will be realized. We won’t have to hope anymore because all of the things that Jesus was about here on earth and all that God promises in scripture will come true. The world will be judged but it will also be reborn and renewed.

That is good news if you have placed your hope in Jesus.

Here is some scripture about how joyful that will be.

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son” Revelation 21: 3-7
